The client
Mööbliait is a furniture and home furnishings retailer selling both online and in stores. The product range is large and goods move between several warehouses and stores. The warehouse therefore needs to know exactly what has been sold, where to pick it from and where it goes.
The challenge
Sales and accounting run in the accounting software, but it doesn’t manage warehouse work. Without a separate warehouse system, every invoice has to be read in the warehouse, the right shelf location looked up and the delivery note prepared by hand. The more orders, the more time spent searching and the higher the risk of the wrong product or quantity.
The solution
We developed a web-based warehouse management system (WMS) with an Android app for warehouse staff. The system runs alongside the existing accounting software – sales and accounting stay there, while warehouse work is managed in the WMS.
SaleThe invoice is confirmed in the accounting software as before.
Warehouse orderThe WMS creates a warehouse order from the invoice within minutes and splits lines by warehouse.
Shelf locationsThe system reserves the right shelf location for each item and sends the delivery note to the warehouse printer.
PickingStaff scan the items with an Android scanner and mark the order as complete.
- Automatic warehouse orders: confirmed sales invoices become warehouse orders automatically, split across warehouses where needed. Credit notes are flagged on the order automatically.
- Data in sync: products, stock levels and purchase orders update regularly from the accounting software, invoices every few minutes.
- Visual warehouse layout: a planner built with React and TypeScript where shelves and locations are drawn and a barcode label is printed for every location.
- Android scanner: product lookup by barcode, location stocktaking, reserving and releasing locations and completing orders right in the warehouse.
- Automatic printing: delivery notes and labels (PDF, barcodes) go through cloud printing straight to the right warehouse printer – nobody has to print them from a computer.
- Purchase orders and receiving: incoming goods lists and labels for receiving.
- Users and permissions: role-based permissions (warehouse, purchasing, orders, administration) and API keys for devices.
Technology
Laravel (PHP), React and TypeScript, a REST API for the Android app, real-time events, PDF and barcode generation, cloud printing and automated deployment with Bitbucket Pipelines. Data exchange with the accounting software (Standard Books) runs via scheduled synchronisation.
